Planning the Ride

Intro:

For those who know me, I am an avid motorcycle rider and try to make at least one "extended" trip each year. Some years it's just something me or my riding buddy Larry cooks up on our own, and sometimes we use some organized club certification as our ride, or at least the basis of it.

In past years we've done a "Great Lakes Circle Tour", attended an event called "HyderSeek" (visiting Hyder Alaska), traversed the "Lincoln Highway" from NY to CA, and a "48+1 State Capitol Tour" (visited all 48 State Capitols plus Washington DC - in 24 days!).

This year I decided we should try out the Southern California Motorcycle Association's "Best 15 US Roads Challenge". This ride requires one to ride their motorcycle to, over, and back home from a list of what were deemed 15 of the best motorcycle roads in the USA for this particular year. The rules require us to ride these roads in any order we wish, and they don't have to be done all together - but they do have to be completed and documented all in the same calendar year. Well, it turns out that we both have already ridden most of the required roads at least one each before and since we just love to make the rides even more adventurous, we decided to complete the "Challenge" in just 30 days or less AND we added in a few more really great roads and sightseeing destinations to boot! Here is our ride plan.

Itinerary:

The sections in RED are the required 15 segments, the MAGENTA segments are connecting and/or "bonus" sections we added and the GREEN marks a segment from the official finish of the "Best 15 Challenge" on to include a few more "bonus" roads/locations.

Our planned start for this adventure is sometime in early August and expect to complete it by Labor Day weekend.

Stay tuned for updates after we start riding and are out on the road!
