Getting ready to start the day |
We ran up I-91 in Vermont and then crossed over to NH 302 to come back into NH 16 from the north. It was a nice ride with some interstate and some country roads. We arrived at the Auto Road at 9:35 AM.
We queued up and paid our $16 each and were off towards the summit! The weather at the base was 66 degrees with negligible winds. The traffic on the auto road was pretty light and we had an unobstructed run up for a while before we caught some slower moving cars and pickups. Most of them stopped at scenic turnouts though so we really had a nice run up. It did get windier and colder as we approached the summit. When we arrived at the top the visibility was less than 100 ft in the clouds, with a stiff steady wind of 30 MPH. The temp was 41, but felt much core like the rated windchill of 30 Brrrrr!
We made it! |
We walked around just a bit, got a few pix and I plugged in my heated liner for the ride back down. We ended up behind a caravan of several Can-Am Spyders and I hope my videos of the decent came out good.
Hamming it up in the wind |
The ride back down the Auto Road
Now to head on towards out next destination, Larry's house in Halifax, PA. Our route said 580 more miles to get there, which on top of the 115 or so we already did to get here and up and down the mountain would make for a very long day indeed. As it worked out, we made it down to Binghamton, NY where we stopped for the night at 6:45 PM having covered 521 miles total for the day.
